Writing
I focus my classes on
five main types of writing
Argument
We will focus on argument writing as laid out by Joseph Harris in The Moves Writers Make.
Students will follow the "argument highway" and will learn which moves are effective in making a professional argument.
Creative/
Aesthetic
Students will write creative pieces (poetry, narratives, etc) that coorelate with the texts we are studying in class.
Reflective
Students will write reflections about their own writing, other's writing, and texts we study in this class.
Research
Students will complete research tied to the texts we study.
Speech
Reflective
Students will write and deliver presentations to the class.
What will we read
Students will read a variety of texts including novels, news articles, blogs, plays, short stories, poetry, and more.

Phones
Phone Policy
I do not allow phones to be out during my classes unless I have given permission. I will sometimes announce that listening to music while doing independent work is fine as long as phones are in pockets.
Offenses are per semester and consequences are as follows:
1. Warning, student will place phone in the sitter at the front of the room.
2. Detention.
3. Detention and phone is confescated for the day.
4. Meeting with parents and admin.
Food
Food Policy
I do not typically allow food in my classroom unless there is a special circumstance.
I am going to be pretty strict on my food policy this year, because I have a few students with SEVERE allergies.
Drink Policy
Drinks that have a screw on lid/cap are allowed in my class.
