Tropical Storms are Tropical Cyclones that reach winds of 39-73 mph.

Tropical Storms usually cause minor damage to areas hit by them. The most damaging tropical storms are the ones that stalls over a certain area; causing emense flooding.

The two most recent Tropical Storms are Paulette (left side of screen) and Rene (right side of screen). Both of these systems are still alive and are expected to become Hurricanes in the next few days.

Notable Tropical Storms that have been retired recently are: Allison (2001), Erika (2015), and Imelda (2019).

Category 1 Hurricanes

are Tropical Cyclones with winds that range from 74-95 mph.

Category 2 Hurricanes are Tropical Cyclones that have winds that range from 96-110 mph.

Cat 1's damages are moderate but, bring heavy winds and some storm surge to where ever it makes landfall.

Cat 2's damages are extensive and can bring winds that can damage houses severely. They also can produce up to 6-8 ft of storm surge.

Hurricane Alex (2010) makes landfall near South Texas, in Mexico.

Hurricane Isaias (2020) on approch to Florida.

Some recent examples of Recent Category 1 Hurricanes that have made landfall are: Nate (2017), Barry (2019), Hanna (2020), Isaias (2020), and Nana (2020)

Recent examples of Cat 2's that made landfall are:

Hurricane Alex (2010), Hurricane Ernesto (2012), and Hurricane Arthur (2014)

Category 4 Hurricanes are Tropical Cyclones that have winds that range from 130-156 mph.

Category 3 Hurricanes are Tropical

Cyclones that have winds that range from 112-129 mph.

Category 5 Hurricanes are Tropical Cyclones that have winds that are >157 mph.

Cat 5's causes an insane amount of damage and wipes out towns that are impacted by them. Cat 5's have unsurvivable winds and storm surge that reach 19+ ft.

Cat 3's cause extraordinary damage to where ever they make landfall. They have deadly winds and can produce up to 9-12 ft of storm surge.

Cat 4's deal obsurds amount of damages to places impacted by them. Cat 4's can demolish houses and can produce up to 13-18 ft of storm surge.
