What is Ofcom?

What Ofcom make sure of

What Ofcom make sure?

  • That people are able to use communications services, including broadband.
  • A range of companies provides quality television and radio programmes that appeal to diverse audiences.
  • Viewers and listeners are protected from harmful or offensive material on TV, radio and on-demand.
  • People are protected from unfair treatment in programmes, and don't have their privacy invaded.
  • The universal postal services covers all UK addresses six days a week.
  • The radio spectrum is used in the most effective way.

I feel that the point on the unfair treatment and the viewers/listeners privacy invaded, is the two main points that I will be focusing on when making and editing my documentary.

Why are these laws and policies important?

Why are this laws and policies important?

I think that this laws and policies are important for all the companies that install or make broadband, TV or radio, because if these laws and policies are broken they could be a serious problem for the subject.

For example a certain policies is called "protecting the under 18s" if this rule is broken it can possible lead the child in danger, there was an example of this in the documentary called "Benefit Street" where is showed children around crime and drugs- and as a child if that's all you see for years you'll think that it is the norm to do those things.
