Main Idea
Sappho is the only woman from classical Greece who's writing has survived. Though she is not the first woman writer. Sappho possibly ran a school for girls in their teens. She wrote poems about how beautiful they were, about nature, and about love.
Sappho was born anywhere from 640-610 B.C. She lived on the island of Lesbos with her family. She is also known to grow up fairly wealthy. She had quite a big family also.
Family
Sappho lived on the island of Lesbos in the 600's B.C. with her family. Her Mom's name was Cleis, and her Dad's name was Skamandronymous. She also had three brothers, their names were, Larichus, Eurygius, Charaxus.
Sappho is known for her lyrical poetry. Her writing is known for how intense and detailed it is.
We actually learned a lot from Sappho even though we don't know it. We learned that women can do great things as equally as men can. Also, back in the 600's, humans were just figuring out about our world, so it's cool to think that she even knew to write poetry or that anybody knew how to write at all!
