On april 20th, 2010, and explosion happened on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. The explosion spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico. It was the largest oil spill in history. The oil rig later sinked into the water.

On April 20th, 2022, there was a huge surge of natural gas. The surge fractured the oil rig's core, it later ignited and killed eleven of the workers. seventeen other workers were injuried. The explosion made the oil rig capsize and release all ofthe oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
There were many issues created from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Millions of gallons of oil was spilled.
The oil spill affected thousands of marine animals and birds. It covered many in oil and ruined their habitats.

There were many things done to fix it. Boats were used to capture oil, beaches were cleaned after being damaged by oil. Some oil was burned and others were siphoned onto boats.

We can prevent this disaster from happening again by reducing our need of oil. If we reduce our need then there would be less oil to spill and it would be easier to clean up. Another way to prevent this from happeing again is by using other things instead of using oil.
