How many moons are in the solar system in total?

Question

# 1

There are 178 known moons in the solar system. The planet with the natural satellites is Jupiter and it has 66 moons. There are also 104 asteroid moons. 58 dwarf planet candidates.Mercury doesn't have any moons. Scientists say this is because it is too close to the sun. Venus has no moons either. Mars has 2 moons. Jupiter has 66 moons. Saturn has 62 moons. Uranus has 27 moons. Neptune has 14 moons. Last but not least Pluto has 5 moons.

What is the Milky Way's structure?

Question

#2

The Milky Way is in a spiral form. It got its name because it looks spilled milk. The Milky Way has a large collection of stars. It takes 100,000 light years to go across the Milky Way. This means it takes light, which travels 186,282 miles per second, 100,000 years to go across. It has spiral arms too.

How was the Milky way created?

Question

#3

The Milky Way is 13.6 billion years old! The Big Bang created everything we have right now. All of the stars and dust came together to form the Milky Way.The Milky Way produces more than 7 stars per year. Sometimes galaxies gobble other galaxies and the Milky Way has been doing this for years. The Milky Way right now is gobbling another galaxy. Sometimes stars blow up and the left over dust and gas get compressed to make another star.

What is inside the Milky Way?

Question

#4

In the center of the Milky Way is a super massive black hole. There are hundreds of billions of stars in the galaxy. There is energy in the galaxy left over from the Big Bang. There are also billions of rock and particles. There are a lot of comets and meteoroids. There is space junk and solar matter, too.

The Inner Planets

The Inner Planets

By: Amber Lee

Why are inner planets called inner planets? What is their order from the sun?

Question 1

The inner planets are called inner planets because they are located in the inner part of the solar system. Their order from the sun is Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. You can tell the inner planets apart from the outer planets because there is an asteroid belt separating the two. The inner planets are in the inner part of the asteroid belt.

What is the difference between inner planets and outer planets?

Question 2

Outer Planets

  • are in the outer part of the solar system and asteroid belt
  • very large
  • orbits slower
  • not very dense
  • all have same atmospheres
  • cannot stand on

Inner Planets

  • are in the inner part of the solar system and asteroid belt
  • smaller
  • orbit faster
  • solid surfaces
  • very dense
  • varying atmospheres
  • can stand on

The Asteroid Belt

What are the similarities between inner planets and outer planets?

Question 3

  • All of the planets orbit the Sun
  • The planets were all formed at about the same time
  • All are spherical
  • All have an atmosphere
  • Every planet rotates on it's axis
  • All have a solid core
  • All rotate clockwise
  • All are in the solar system

What do the inner planets consist of? What are their conditions and climates?

Question 4

Mercury: molten iron

Climate: very hot in the day, very cold in the night

Venus: iron and rocks

Climate: burning hot with severe winds

Earth: mostly water, iron, and nickel

Climate: humid, dry, windy

Mars: oxidized iron dust

Climate: cold, dusty
