Natural vegetation & its types & importance

Prepared by: Ms.Parveen Shams

Imagine a world without any plants: no trees, flowers, or grass. How would that affect our lives?

Brainstorming

Various types of Natural vegetation

SLO#4.1.2: Describe various types of natural vegetation i.e. forests, grasslands, desert vegetation.

Desert vegetation

Desert vegetation is found in areas with very low rainfall. Desert plants are adapted to dry conditions and include cacti, succulents, and other drought-tolerant plants.

Grasslands are another major type of natural vegetation. Grasslands are found in areas with moderate rainfall and are characterized by grasses and other herbaceous plants. Grasslands are important for grazing animals and agriculture.

Grasslands

Forests are the most common type of natural vegetation, covering about one-third of the Earth's land surface.

Pakistan forests cover percentage is 0-9%,Total Forest area under the control of Forest Departments is 4.26 million hectares.

The per capita forest area is only 0.037 ha.

Forests

World Forest Classification on the basis of temperature

i.Tropical (very hot and winterless)

& Sub-Tropical (hot with cool winter)

ii.Temperate (warm summer & cool to cold winter)

iii.Arctic/Boreal (Mild to very cold winter

World forest classification

Arctic/Boreal forests: These forests are found in the northernmost regions of the Earth and are characterized by cold winters and short summers. Boreal forests are home to coniferous trees and other cold-adapted plants.

Arctic/

Boreal

Temperate forests: These forests are found in temperate regions with four distinct seasons. Temperate forests are home to a variety of trees, including deciduous trees that lose their leaves in the fall and coniferous trees that keep their leaves year-round.

Temperate

Tropical rainforests: These forests are found in the tropics and are characterized by high temperatures and rainfall. Tropical rainforests are home to a wide variety of plant and animal life.

Map

Natural vegetation has a significant commercial and economic impact. Forests provide timber, pulpwood, and other products. Grasslands provide grazing land for livestock and are also used for crop production. Desert vegetation is used for a variety of purposes, including the production of medicines, cosmetics, and food products.
