Communication over the years

Timeline

In the past

In the past, smoke was used as a means of communication from one mountain to another. Needless to say that only a few simple messages could be sent and received with this primitive method of smoke signals.Carrier pigeon was another means of communication to send messages further away. The pigeons were trained for this two way communication method of letter carrying. The letter, which was replaced with fax and e-mail consecutively, used to be a common means of communication as well. People needed to send their messages further away and faster as the world population increased and started to be globalized.

The email message is replacing handwritten correspondence. The email is used at schools, universities, companies and also to communicate with friends and family

Factors of effective communication

Factors

Listening

Listening skills allow one to make sense of and understand what another person is saying. In other words, listening skills allow people to understand what someone is talking about-the meaning behind the words

Feedback

Feedback is about listening actively, taking the time to analyze, and then thinking of the best possible solution to perform better. It provides positive criticism and allows to see what everyone can change to improve their focus and results. It brings people together and creates a healthy communication flow.

Eye contact and body language

Factors

Eye contact is a type of body language that is extremely important during communication and conversation. Sometimes, our eyes and body language speak even more than words. Keeping eye contact with the person you are talking to shows that you are actively listening and paying attention
