Impact on cultural differences

Signs that indicate a child may have Communication disorder

Many schools around the world are getting students that do not learn English as their primary language. This can be challenging and even sometimes cause these children to be placed in special education services due to their cultural differences and dialects.

Impact on children

Children develop speech sounds from birth to 12 months. If the child is not developing these developmental milestones or at the pace expected then an examination will be completed to determine what may be the cause behind the speech delays.

For school aged children the impact of a language or communication disorder can be very challenging. It may be difficult to make friends, and socialize. Having a conversation with a peer can be challenging, which can lead these children to shy away from social interactions. A child with a stutter may be teased, and have difficulty interacting with their peers.
