Mr and Mrs Joe

The way pip is raised by his sister, and the interactions he has with joe help shape his future

During his time in the graveyard next to his town, pip gets snuck up on by the escaped convict.

The convict physically immobilizes pip and threathens to kill him if he doesnt bring him a file and some scraps of food

Pip steals from Joe and Mrs.joe in order to get the convict what he asked for, the convict lets pip go, will pip ever see him again?

Satis Manor House

For some unknown reason pip is invited to Ms. Havisham's house to play with her daughter Estella, who just happens to be very pretty

Pip in typical story telling fashion falls in love with Estella and for the rest of the story is under the "great Expectation" he wil will marry her some day, and believes that is why Ms.Havisham brough him to her house in the first place

Love

Foreboding?

During His time there pip describes the run down aesthetic of the manor, and even mentions how Ms.Havisham hasen't seen the sun in decades, and is perpetually dressed in a white wedding dress.

Foreboding?

Life after the Satis House

After being in the Satis house and expiriencing a small amount of wealth, Pip becomes extremely dissatisfied with his life and his "commonness"

following this he becomes joe's apprentice as a Blacksmith and his life becomes pretty mundane following that

Benefactor

In the years following, Pip learns about an anonymous benefactor who has left him a huge amount of money

This opportunity allows Pip to go to London and learn how to be a gentleman

Pip assumes his benefactor to be ms.Havisham, and that she is grooming him to become estella's husband

This transaction is to be completed through the lawyer Jaggers

Benefactor

Jaggers

One day at ms. Havisham's, Pip is introduced to this Jaggers, who is a lawyer

Jaggers informs pip of his benefactor but will not under any circumstance reveal who it is

Due to his association with Ms. Havisham Pip makes his assumption

London the city of "Great Expectations"

When Pip arrives in london he finds it unlike what he expected, the city which he thought so much of was busy, dirty, smelly, and not so pretty

Matthew Pocket

Matthew Pocket

Matthew Pocket is the father of Herbert, and is also Pip's tutor and teaches him everything he needs to know to become a gentleman

Wemmick

and

Herbet

Wemmick

and

Herbet

Wemmick is jaggers' clerck, while herbert is the son of matthew Pocket, but both of the young men become close friends to Pip and play important roles in shaping Pip and his interaction with them and other imortant characters

Disdain for his past

Disdain for his past

Throughout his interactions with wemmick and Herbet, we get a sense that Pip really hated his past and shows contempt for people from his "Previous life" such as his former friends and loved ones, even Joe

Everything In Between and All Around

If any of the following categories interst you, we would definitely recommend considering, Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens, as your next read...

Growth and Life Lessons

Fundamentality, the main theme of the book is to not be greedy, and self-absorbed wanting more and more wealth for oneself

This book does a great job of showing Pip's growth from the beginning trough his adolescense and at the end where he figures it all out

Love Story

Much like other Victorian literature, some love elements are found in this book in the form of the love of Estella from Pip

while the main focus of the book isn't fully on the love, it's still their and plays a decent role in the story for those who are into that

Plot Twists/Unexpected Occurences

While mentioning this may spoil a little bit of what you could expect if you were to read this book, it is still worth it to mention that the plot of this book does a good job of keeping the reader on his toes and constantly thinking about what may happen next or what the significance of character is

Terrible Endings

Terrible Endings

After some debate, the majority of our group members came to a conclusive result, we didn't particularly like the ending to this book

SO for those of you who like books with good stories but terrible endings, this book is perfect for you because it has a whole two of them
