Irena Sendler (also called Jolanta)
Growing up around jewish people her whole life, Irena bands together the resistance after the nazis invade Poland. At first, they forge welfare benefits and help feed the hungry, but then the Jewish people are forced into "jewish quarters." They start sneaking kids out of the ghetto. Irena hides babies in boxes, and kids in coffins. Many families even crawl through filthy sewers in order to escape. As the war rages on nazis start sending thousands of people off to death camps, and Irenas situation becomes even more dire. Escaping death many times, Irena fights for what she thinks is right, even if it means putting herself and her family in jeopardy.
