Evacuees were a very significant part of World War 2. In World War 2 it was mostly Children who were evacuated- 2 million children.

Children in 1900's had to be evacuated to host families for their own safety. They had to be taken away from their families for a long time ( some people stay with their host families for 6 months! )

The Germans bombed London however they left the countryside alone because there is mostly fields there. Also, they bombed London's food supplies therefore they started rationing.

What did they do to help?

To fix this situation they started rationing. Also, they started to evacuate children and pregnant women.

World War 2 started on 1st September 1939 and ended 2nd September 1945.

* When the host families picked their new children, the cleanest children were picked first and the other children were left until more families came.

* The children being evacuated had to wear tags.

* Some children had to be evacuated to places as far as Canada, Australia or even as far as the USA.
