STEP 2

Further instructions

An explanation...

The fourth piece

The first piece

The third piece

The second piece

Start with repeating the first question (first piece):

Do you know how it feels to...?

Now I want you to use pathos - affect your audience by using your emotions .

Begin your speech with:

  • a question; Do you know how it feels to...?
  • And then add: I know!

This part, together with the greeting, should be about 60 seconds.

Do not reveal the main idea yet.

Tell the audience three things that strengthen the understanding of your topic - imagine climbing a hill.

Phase 1: Once when... (eye contact)

Phase 2: When we were sitting there... (eye contact)

Phase 3: And then...

End with a "cliffhanger" and then make eye contact.

Time to wrap it up.

Tell the audience something that will make them remember your speech. The last sentence should be a punch line.

Imagine making the final goal in a football game or making someone speechless, eg. answer the question (first piece) or use a quote

GOOD LUCK!

Summary

1. Pick one idea - make it the through-line running through your entire talk so that everything you say links back to it in some way

2. Give your listeners a reason to care - stir your audience's curiosity.

3. Build your idea with familiar concepts - use a language your listeners understand, use metaphors if the terms are too difficult.

4. Make your idea worth sharing!
