Back in ancient Greece the word Barbarians where simply referred to those who didn't speak greek, but that changed during the time of the ancient Roman empire. Then the word was used for all foreigners especially those that intrude the border.
The Romans called all who did not speak Latin barbarians, which included the Goths, the Vandals, Huns, Franks, Saxons, and many others.
The Romans often mocked the Barbarians and saw them as uncivilized and uneducated. The barbarians were mostly looked down upon and not excepted into Roman society.
The Vikings were Scandinavian people who lived in Europe from the 8th century to the 11th century. They traded, raided, sailed, and settled around most of Europe. These daring explorers were known for there excellent sailing. They vikings were much more civilized than they were given credit for, they gave women rights and had excellent hygiene.
While the vikings get mixed up with the barbarians often thy were hardly alike. For example the barbarians had a gross and smelly appearance were as the Vikings had very nice hygiene. The Vikings were extremely civilized and educated where as mentioned the barbarians were not.
