Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand Kicked of the war by making Austria-Hungary declare war on Serbia.

Austria Declare War on Serbia

This would start WWI by Russia backing Serbia and Germany backing Austria-Hungary making some of the biggest powers of that time to be at war with each other.

Battle of the Marne

Offensive push from France and British Expeditionary Forces against Germans who invaded Belgium which messed up German plans and allowed a quick and total victory on the Western front.

Race to the Sea

After the Battle of the Marne both sides continued to flank until there was no more space available to, then they dug trenches and trench warfare ensued.

Sinking of the Lusitania

When german U-boats sunk a passenger boat for carrying ammunition it killed US civilians which made US sentiment heavily against Germany.

Germany's resume in Unrestricted Submarine Warfare

After this US President of the time Woodrow Wilson wrote a war message to congress saying this is not only against commerce but against all of mankind.

Germany knocks Russia out of the war

Russia was going through a revolutionary war and had enough problems so the signed The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk which gave Germany land and allowed them to push all troops to the West front which allowed them to be much stronger on that side.
