Brasília is the capital of Brazil which is located in the central-eastern part of South America, the largest portion of it lies south of the equator. Border countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The country has an almost 7,500 km long coastline on the Atlantic Ocean.
An issue is that people do not have access to safe water and improved sanitation.
For those who do have access to safe water, there are things that still remain challenging such as the water supply downtime, disruption in service and deficiencies in drinking water systems.
When the water is scarce in Brasília, the weather and land become a lot more dry, resulting in droughts. Brazil are suffering from physical water scarcity and are currently undergoing their longest drought in 91 years.
34 million Brazillians don't have access to clean running water. Over 100 million Brazillians have inadequate sanitation of water.
A combination of natural and human-made causes which have contributed to a growing water crisis. These include:
-The fact that the country of Brazil is heavily dependent on water as 70% of its energy mix depends on hydroelectricity.
- Climate change, which tends to make continental interiors both hotter and drier, and the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest and Cerrado savanna biomes.
- Poor urban planning, if the government had implemented the necessary policies, carried out adequate maintenance, implemented infrastructure projects, and conducted urban planning.
- Much of the Brasilia habitat that has been damaged is being replenished by simple replanting to help recover the water capacity in Brasilia's basin.
- The creation of a new tariff band named the “water scarcity tariff”, was put into action which will increase household electric bills at least until the end of the drought in 2022
