Mrs. Mary Sutherland asks for the help of Holmes because of the disappearance of her fiance.

-> Tells Holmes about the missing Mr. Hosmer Angel

-> Holmes and Mrs. Sutherland talk about the case

-> Holmes collects information and analyses Mrs. Sutherland

Holmes writes two letters : The first one to a company in the city and the second one to the stepfather of Mrs. Sutherland. As long as there is no answer he stops working on the case.

Mr. Windibank wrote a letter to Holmes and comes to him. They talk about the case and Holmes exposes him as the offender. Mr. Windibank escapes without punishment.
