Introduction

The Iran Blizzard of 1972 was the deadliest blizzard in the history of Iran. I chose this topic because Iran is where my family comes from and I wanted to know more about what happened in its past. In this presentation, I will talk about what, where, why and how it happened.

HOW?

HOW?

The Iran Blizzard was the worst ever in recorded history. The snow was 3 m deep, however, some places in southern Iran was covered as deep as 8 m. Iran’s 1,636,000 sq km landmass disappeared beneath the snow that was so deep in places it buried thousands of people. Sadly, lots of families sat tightly in their homes but they were traped freezing to death and hungry.

WHEN?

The blizzard of 1972 went through western Iran and into Azerbaijan. This was on February 3 to February 8. Although, on February 9, 1972, after a week of continual snowfall, the blizzard stoped for 24 hours. However, after 24 hours. Another blizzard started again on February 11. This made the rescue workers to stop searching.

Scientific Information

If you want a blizzard to form you'll need three things. First, the air needs to be cold at the surface. Second, There has to be lots of mosture for the atmosfear. Third, you need a excellent amount of lift to cause the warm air to rise over cold air. Therefor, you get a snowstorm.

Aftermath

The blizzard killed 4,000 people. This horrible storm had bursted through 200 villages and left up to 26 feet of snow (that’s like two and half story building of snowfall) Overmore, this storm broke telephone lines, burying commuter trains, buried villages, and squished cars.
