Welcome to Humanities 2!

Humanities 2 is a blend of English 2 and World History. Today is all about getting familiar with the class and with each other. The three most important rules in this classroom are:

  • No electronic devices in use without permission
  • No eating
  • No walking around

So, before the bell rings, please put your cell phone away in your bag or plug it into the charging station on the wall. While we check schedules, make your nameplate.

  • Fold the paper at your desk in half
  • Write your name on one side, large and with a marker
  • Under your name, write the word FUTURE and the job you want as an adult

Philosophical Chairs

Humanities combines English and History. In English, we study the art of writing. In history, we study life as it has existed during time.

Consider the question:

Does life imitate art or does art imitate life?

Philosophical Chairs

Line up by opinion and be prepared to explain your answer.

Life imitates art.

Art imitates life.

Rules

  • Only one person may speak at a time.
  • Before speaking, take one step forward to show it is your turn.
  • Each turn, a person from the other side must speak.
  • If someone convinces you to change your mind, switch sides.
  • When you speak, you must mention what the person before you said and argue that person's point.

Rules

"I understand what you meant when you said _____, but I still disagree because _____."
