- Toothbrushes were invented by the ancient Chinese civilization in the Tang dynasty (around 618 - 907 AD)

- When the silk road was built, Europeans learned about the toothbrush and adapted it to their own needs.

WHEN?

- the original idea for a toothbrush was founded back in Egyptian and Babylonian times, they just used a “chew sticks” or a stick they chewed on to make softer so they could brush their teeth without pain.

WHAT WERE THEY MADE OF?

- During the Egyptian and Babylonian periods, toothbrushes were made of a simple stick with a softer end that had been chewed.

WHAT?

- The Ancient Chinese civilization used bamboo and hog hairs to create the first bristle toothbrush.

- Europeans opted for horsehair, which was softer on their gums.
