Prohibition and Temperance

Prohibition

Was a law that banned the production, sales, and consumption of alcohol. This law was placed in the early 1920s.

How they repealed the Prohibition amendment

They first tired to repeal prohibition in 1926 when the Stock Market crashed, by doing this the government could of raised funds which would then help stimulate the economy once again. In 1933 the government passed the 21st amendment that repealed the government. Prohibition was the one and only law that got repealed by the government.

The effects of Prohibition

Prohibition was so ineffective because with it there also came crimes. One of the biggest problems was the organized crimes. Some of these organized crimes where underground bars where they sold alcohol, guns and drank.

Prohibition in the Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby was written in the 1920's, and that's when the law was going into action

Temperance Movement

The Temperance Movement main goal was to eliminate the use of alcohol. It was mainly ran by women who thought that alcohol was inful and the main reason pople cause chaos. They used the temperance movvement as new form of education and legislation in many states.

Carry Nation

One of the most know women when talking about the Temperance movement . She even created her own dividion called Women;s Christisn Temperance Union . She belived anybody who did bad things in the past was to blame liqour for their actions . To get people to see her views she became violent and started destroying salons
