Being born in Mexico and raised in the United States most of life influenced the person I'am today. To me family is the most important thing. My family has helped become a better man but as well learn a respectful language that is important.

Home

Mom

My mom has always been there in the happy moments and in the hard moments. My mom was the first person I learn my social language but as well my identity. Through my mom I learned who I wanted to be and that helped me create an academic language that could help me communicate with others. The academic language I learned from my mom established the literature I was going to focus.

Mom

Brother

Since my brother was born, we have always commincated about different topics. My brother help me grow my social language but as well my academic language. My brother and I like to compete in anyhting even school but that does not mean we help each other understand things. The language academic or social was improved because my brother was there to help me. My brother also helped grow my identity but also my literature.

Brother

Sister

Although my sister and I are family we tend to fight frequently. Having a sister helped understand the academic language and the way I should use it. Being a big brother is important to use an academic language even when I'm fightning with my sister because it will show to her how to behave. The academic language I use with my sister demonstrates that my identity includes being a role model not just for her but other people as well.

Sister

Mexico

I was born in Mexico but I was raised in the United States most of my life. One of my favorite memories that I have in Mexico is with my tita (abuelita) and cousins going to the store and buying toys. I was able to learn a social language from my small time with them but that social language is part of who I'am. The social language helped learn a little bit of literature in spanish. The social language is part of my identity because I'm proud to be from Mexico.

Mexico

School

School has helped me learn an academic language that is useful not only in school but other places as well to be proffesional to others. School has also helped me learn a social language through my friends. The different cultures in school has thought me to become more open-minded and respectful.

School

Friends

I have known my friends since I was in elementary and since then we have gone to the same schools since then. Through my friends I was able to learn a social language that I use to communicate with other people. The social language I use connects with my identity because it communicates to other people who I'am.

Friends

High School

Going to high school has thought me to get an academic language. Having an academic language has demonstrated to people that my identity is hispanic. Through my academic language I have learn to be open-minded but also grow as a student.

High School

UTRGV

Attending UTRGV for the first time is something amazing. I'am the first one in my family to attend college and I would be the first one in my family to get a college degree. Attending UTRGV will help me grow my academic language because my professors would requiere me to have my work in a certain way. It will also help me grow as a student.

UTRGV

Culture

The culture around me in high school, college, or in my community are very different. Being around different cultures has tought me to have an academic language in order to be respectful and open-minded. In my high school one my classmates was gay and it was cool to work with him because he brought unique ideas to the group. The academic language help me understand more my identity in the culture around me, but also how I can use both culture and my identity to grow my academic language in my literary writing or reading.

Culture

Library

Going to the library helped learn the importance of reading and writng and how it can influence an individual. Going to the library helped comprehend how my identity can be used in the languge I use to create a poem, story, or a comic.

Library

Comics

I remember when I went to the library for the first time I went to the comics section and began reading. Since then everytime I go to the library I go to the comics and read. Although comics about heroes or monsters are fiction they helped learn my second language: english. Comics helped grow my literary terms but also literary knowledge. I continue to read comics because they are fun, but also because I can learn something new.

Comics

Horror

When I was 8 I went to the library with my family. I asked the librarian if she can help find scary books. She took me to the section of horror. She told me horror was her favorite genre and recommended the books of R.L. Stine. The first horror book I read was "The Night of the Living Dummy" by R.L. Stine. I had nightmares, but I continued reading his books. One thing that I learned from the horror books I read it was the language R.L. Stine and other authors use to create a fictional realistic world. That language I learned from horror books, I like applying it to my own writing.

Horror

Novels

When I was younger I did not like reading novels because I thought they were long and boring. When I went to the library at my elementary school for the first time there were so many books. One of the novels that caught my attention was "Esperanza Rising" by Pam Munoz Ryan, and I took it to read. This book caught my attention because the languge used in the novel describes the struggles of my identity. I learned from this novel how authors can use language to connect literature with people's identity. From this book I learned how my identity can be use in literature terms

Novels

Poems

When my mom took me to a different library I got lost and couldn't find the books I wanted to read. I got a book thinking it was a novel but rather a series of poems. I never really understood poems or thier language. But as I read the series of poems I learned how many of poets use thier language to connect with their identity. Through poems I learn how small literary terms can be used to create a language to describe your identity.

Poems

Excersice

Excersice has helped learn how to grow as a person. Through excersice I have learn new literary terminalogy that inlfuences how I see things. It has also helped reflect the different language I use in different environments and actions.

Excersice

Sports

I cannot remember when I fell in love with sports but I know I was very young. I love watching sports because it helps me stay motivated. Although sports thought me physical education it also thought me a new language which was sports language. I use sports language to communicate with other people like my friends and brother. I use sports languge to read articles or texts that have to do with sports of any kind. Sports language to me is important because sports are part of who I'am.

Sports

Motivation

Every morning when I'm working out there is motivation or determination to finish strong. I have always been motivated since I was a little kid to get better. Motivation is part of my identity because it helps me learn new language or new ways to grow my language. I have always belief that a person is not perfect that are many ways to improve. Motivation is part of my identity because I'm motivated to expand my language and literature.

Motivation

Patience

Since I was a kid I have struggle with patience. My mom always makes fun of me because of how little patience I have. And she is not wrong I hate waiting, I like things to go faster. When I'm working out in the morning when there is no one but me it helps become less patience. I want to get things faster not just in exercising but when it comes to school. I wished I can learn languages faster, write faster, or read faster but it's not possible without practice and having patience. In order to become better in literature or grow as a person is important to understand that it takes time acheive things.

Patience

Pain

I remember when I went to the gym for the first time, I was so sored I could not move the next day. This will sound a little weird but pain is part of my identity. What the hell does that mean? Pain is part of my identity because with out pain there cannot be any success. Pain hurts but it demonstrates that there is growth. Is similar when you are learning a new language because it is not easy but rather it takes time. You can say that I'm a motivated impatient person and you are probably correct but I'm willing to go through the pain to grow not just as an individual but in other things like literature or language.

Theater

Theater gave me the opportunity to expand my literary and language to a new place where I did not have any experience. Theater helped learn different ways I could use my language that has an impact on the people around me and my identity.

Theater

Scripts

During my sophmore year I had to write a script for theater. I had never written a script before and I was very nervous if it was going to be good or but what will I write? I decided to use my identity of a hispanic to write a script about a little girl who is leaving her home in search of the American Dream. The language I used in my script helped people understand my identity when they read my script. I enjoyed writing scripts because I can use different languages to connect my identity with other people.

Scripts

Acting

During my freshmen year I was told I was going to be an actor for a play we were going to do for a grade. I have never acted before and I was worried I was going to mess up the whole. When I was acting I was using my social language to communicate with my cast members to create a show. We manage to create a good presentation for the audience present. Through acting I learn different ways I can use my language but also how I can use it to create a character that has small reflections of my identity.

Acting

Director

In my senior year one my projects was to write an original script where I had to act and direct. I had some experience writing scripts and acting but directing was something new as well. I wrote a script that focus on a teenage pirncess while going on a adventure to find true love. The language I use to write the script was really different from what I have written before but it included my identity of a teenager. I explained the story to my group and they were excited. Directing was not easy because you have to tell people what to do but also come up with different ways to improve. I use my social and academic language to communicate easier and respecfully. We had a lot of fun and we did a good in the end. As a director I wanted to create something that had a different language than what I have done before, but have our identity of teenagers as well.

Director

Movie

After finishing directing my project, my friend and I were tasked to create a film for a contest. We worked together to come up with a story and write a script. We decided to do a film about the love of a teenage girl and her grandma. The language we use for the film was a representation of our hispanic identity. The way we wrote the film it showed how much the girl loved visiting her grandma. Unfortunatley with COVID-19 we were not able to film anything. But we were happy with what we wrote because the language we use manage to create a unique story but also represent our identity.

Movies

Latin Music

Since I was a baby I was raised hearing latin music which helped me identify my first language but also learn how language is use in different situations people go through. Through latin music I learned how my identity relates to my first language but the other languages I learned through latin music can be seen in different literary texts I have read.

Latin

Music

Daddy Yankee, Romeo Santos, and Enrique Iglesias

Daddy Yankee, Romeo Santos, Enrique Iglesias

My mom told me when I was a baby in diapers I would dance to the songs of Daddy Yankee Romeo Santos, and Enrique Iglesias. The artists and their songs helped identify my first language: spanish. Growing up with these artist helped learn my first language and communicate with my family. The artists helped learn my identity as a hispanic.

Love

Growing up listening to latin music helped learn how there are different feelings humans have. Love is one of the main themes in latin music. When I heard the song "Un Beso" by Romeo Santos not only did I like it, but I learn a new language: romantic language. Romantic language is basically the way a person talks when he is in love. This language helped understand many literary books that have romantic language.

Death

Death is another theme that is present in latin music. Growing up I never lost someone special but when I listen to "Lloro Por Ti" by Enrique Iglesias it impacted me. It made realize that many people around the world go through death. This song helped learn a new language that is common in many literary works of writers like Edgar Allen Poe or Stephen King.

Hapiness

Happiness is the most common theme in latin music. I remember when I was going on the bus during 7th grade and I was worried because we were going to take tests. I remember listening to "Bailando" by Enrique Iglesias it cheered me up the whole day and I was in a happy mood all day. From the song I learn that hapiness is also a language that is useful to cheer up other people. But is also seen in many literary texts where authors want to teach the reader something through hapiness.
