You can get involved in a variety of ways, and navigating that in your first year can be a challenge. SWELL was designed to help you get started on the right foot!

How do I participate

in SWELL?

Add yourself to the SWELL program on the educational learning platform, Canvas.

The CSE Department will send all first year freshmen and transfer students the link to do so at the beginning of Fall quarter.

How do I participate?

The SWELL program is spread across your first 3 quarters at UCSD: Fall, Winter, & Spring

Submit a 2- 3 sentence event

View your awarded participation points!

Most events are worth 10 points, however some longer events are worth 20 points.

Event Categories

You are working to achieve 100 points throughout the year, across 4 different categories of events.

CSE Events: 20 Points

JSOE Events: 10 Points

Event Categories

Career Events: 10 Points

Student Choice Events: 60 Points

You choose which events in each category you would like to attend, however you have to achieve a certain number of points in each category to complete the SWELL program.

Quarterly

Reflection Papers

You need to submit a simple, one-page essay each quarter, totaling 3 reflection papers (Fall, Winter & Spring).

They ask you to reflect on your involvement throughout the quarter and how you believe it has impacted your UCSD career so far.

These reflection papers are meant to help you kick-start a mindset of healthy self-evaluation and development.

Co-Curricular Record Approval

The Co-Curricular Record (CCR) is a recognized, campus-wide tool that students use to demonstrate their engagement.
