TYPES OF AREA NETWORK

what is a network?

what is a network?

Network means any number of independent systems that are connected to each other in such a way as to allow data exchange. Systems connected to each other as well as having a physical connection, must also have a logical connection.

Different network sizes can be distinguished based on the size and range of the computer system.

PAN

When the connection passes through cable, we talk about Personal Area Network (PAN). In this case the simplest transmission techniques are USB or firewire. The Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) wireless variant is based on techniques such as Bluetooth, Wireless USB, Insteon, irda, zigbee or Z-Wave. A Wireless Personal Area Network that works via bluetooth is called Piconet. PAN and WPAN connections normally extend for a few meters and are therefore not suitable to connect devices in different rooms or other buildings

LAN

LAN

Multiple computers are connected together in a single network via a Local Area Network (LAN). A local network of this type can connect two computers in a private home or can connect a thousand devices in a company. Networks such as authorities, schools or universities are also implemented via LAN. Data is transmitted either electronically via copper cables or via optical fibre, that is through fibreglass filaments. The LAN network has been developed to enable fast transmission of large amounts of data.

WLAN

When a local network is built via radio waves, it is called a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN).

WLAN

MAN

The Metropolitan Area Network (MAN),is defined as a broadband telecommunication network, connecting multiple geographically close LANs. These are usually individual branches of a company, which are connected to a MAN through the rental of dedicated lines. For this purpose, efficient routers and high-performance fiber-optic connections are used, which allow greater data transmission than the Internet. The transfer rate between two distant nodes is comparable to the internal communication of a LAN. Cities with MAN cabling also connect to supraregional networks, called Wide Area Networks (WANs), and international networks, which are called the Global Area Networks (GANs).

GAN

A universal network such as the Internet is referred to as the Globe Area Network (GAN). NGs use the WAN’s fibre optic infrastructure and connect them via international submarine cables or satellite transmissions.

GAN

WAN

WAN

Wide Area Networks (WANs) extend to a larger territory such as entire countries and continents. The number of local networks or individual computers that can connect to a single WAN is unlimited.Wide Area Networks are mostly owned by a particular organization or company and are privately managed or leased. In addition, Internet service providers use WANs to connect business networks and end customers to the Internet.
