July Crisis

All events take place in the summer of 1914

June 1914

In the end of June 1914, was the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand which kicked off events that caused WWI. The assasination was carried out by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Bosinan-Serb Nationalist group, The Black Hand. this event heated already high tentions in Europe causing the following events to take place.

Austira Pressures Serbia

Shortly after the Archdukes Assasination, Alexander, the count of Hoyos travled to Germany to establish support for Austria-Hungary against Serbia, the kaiser of Germany, Willhelm II and Chancellor Theobald Von Bethmann encourage Austiran action and issue a "blank check" as a symbol of their support for Austria. On the 23rd of July Austria-hungary sends an ultimatum, containing requests of “'representatives of the Austro-Hungarian government for the suppression of subversive movements” and to "bring to trial all accessories to the Archduke’s assassination and allow Austro-Hungarian delegates (law enforcement officers) to take part in the investigation", giving only 48 hours to respond

Serbia responds to Austria-Hungary's ultimatum two days later on July 25th, suprisingly meeting most of the demands despite the document being made deliberatly unacceptable. because they did not fully agree Austria-Hungary cut all diplomatic ties with Serbia causing war to break out three days later with Austria-Hungary declaring first
