The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) identifies seven capabilities that aim to provide students with the essential skills and understanding needed to thrive in the 21st century. These capabilities are integrated into subject outlines and teaching practices to ensure students develop holistically.
The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is a secondary school qualification in South Australia. It prepares students for further education, work, and life by combining academic and vocational courses with seven essential capabilities like literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking.
The 7 capabilities include integrated and joining the set of knowledge, skills, and understandings that students develop and use in their learning through SACE subjects.
Students develop these capabilities when they apply knowledge and skills confidently, effectively and appropriately in different situations and scenarios, both at school and in their daily life.
The SACE subjects set capabilities to ensure that all students receive an education to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and understandings for success in the SACE and beyond. When you study the SACE you continue to develop capabilities to live, learn, work, and participate successfully in an ever-changing society.
•Literacy
•Numeracy
•Information and communications technology
•Critical and creative thinking
•Personal and social
•Ethical understanding
•Intercultural understanding
This encompasses the ability to read, write, speak, and listen effectively in a wide range of contexts. The literacy capability is developed experientially and encompasses the elements of physical literacy.
This involves the application of mathematical understanding in various real-world (experiential) situations, not just the ability to carry out mathematical calculations.
This capability focuses on the effective use of digital technologies to find, evaluate, and communicate information.
Critical and Creative Thinking is the development and usage of personal and social understanding and participating actively in community life. Questioning, identifying, clarifying information/ideas develops your knowledge and understanding. Being a critical and creative thinker allows you to answers questions and problems creatively and quickly. This involves the ability to think deeply, to evaluate information rigorously, and to approach problems from new angles.
Personal and Social capabilities are to develop and understand these skills inside school and in your daily life. Students will develop personal and social capabilities as they learn to understand themselves/others, manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively.
This focuses on self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship skills, aiming to help students become emotionally intelligent and socially responsible.
In the Australian Curriculum, students develop ethical understanding as they identify and investigate the nature of ethical concepts, values and character traits, and understand how reasoning can assist ethical judgment.
This involves understanding the ethical dimensions of actions and decisions, recognizing ethical principles, and applying these in various situation
This capability focuses on the importance of understanding and respecting cultural diversity, both within Australia and globally.
In the Australian Curriculum, students develop intercultural understanding as they learn to value their own cultures, languages and beliefs, and those of others. They come to understand how personal, group and national identities are shaped, and the variable and changing nature of culture.
Educational theorists have long stressed the importance of experiential learning, indicating that activities like sports can be crucial in developing a wide range of capabilities. By integrating these seven capabilities into lawn bowls, you can provide a multi-faceted educational experience that goes beyond the technical aspects of the game.
Encourage students to read and discuss the rules of the game, different tactics, and even the history of lawn bowls.
Outcome: Improved comprehension, communication, and language skills, vital for articulating complex ideas.
Scoring involves simple arithmetic, while understanding the dimensions of the playing area or the distance the ball travels can provide real-world applications of geometry and measurement.
Outcome: Enhanced mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Utilize video analysis software to record and evaluate game performance. Encourage students to use digital platforms to keep score or manage a mini-tournament.
Outcome: Familiarity with digital tools and data interpretation.
Critical and Creative Thinking is judging and decision making, this is used in all aspects of game play especially when combining with the other capabilities.
Develop strategies to outsmart opponents or optimize ball placement. Encourage students to analyze their own plays as well as those of others for continual improvement.
Outcome: Ability to critically evaluate different scenarios and come up with innovative solutions.
Emphasize the importance of teamwork, communication, and mutual respect on the field. Include exercises focusing on self-awareness, such as understanding emotions when winning or losing.
Outcome: Improved emotional intelligence, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
Engage students in conversations about sportsmanship, fairness, and integrity, perhaps using real-life examples or hypothetical scenarios.
Outcome: Development of ethical principles that can guide action and decision-making.
Create diverse teams or discuss the international dimensions of lawn bowls, including its origins and how it’s played in different cultures.
Outcome: Enhanced cultural awareness and respect for diversity.
Football or Soccer is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. It is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries and dependencies, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by getting the ball into the opposing goal.
I have been playing from age 6 for Port Darwin ,including NTFC This year I am moving to Mindil.
Being able to acknowledge and control commands is the ability to be a successful player, coach or captain. Communication is an essential for a good team whether it is verbal or non-verbal. Calling for the ball and telling other people what to do is an example of verbal communication while pointing and looking is non-verbal. These can all be practiced to become quicker and firmer.
Some examples of verbal communication are:
Dummy - Leave the ball
Back - Pass back
Press - Push a player
Shift - Move left or right
Overlap - Run pass a teamate
Cross - Pass the ball in the air across
Numeracy in football is used in scoring, measuring the pitch and ball sizes.
Scoring is normally on a screen programmed by a person controlling the minutes played, goals scored and even logos.
The pitch must be between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m) and the width has to be less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than 100 yards (90m).
The sizes of footballs ranges from size 3 (circumference:23-24 inches and weight: 11-12 ounce) to size 5 (circumference: 27 to 28 inches weight: 14 to 16 ounce)
Technology is growing year by year as there is new innovations such as Footbonaut, Brazuca Soccer Ball, Astro Turf Football Fields and GDS (Goal Decisive System).
Footbonaut is new technology introduced which helps with your first touch and reactions.
The Footbonaut has one person standing in the middle of the square with 64 different grids. Four of those grids are spread out and randomly shoot out balls which the player has to control and pass into the correct flashing green LED grid.
The Brazuca is on old invention, it is the official match ball for the FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil. It is the most technologically advanced soccer ball ever made. The ball has a latex bladder that means the ball can move faster and glide better in the air and makes it lighter than most other soccer balls.
Astro Turf Football Fields are consisted of plastic blades of grass that are filled with small, crumbly rubber like shavings. These fields are amazing to play on and can be used throughout all types of weather. There is no need to mow the grass and it looks a lot more professional than other unkept natural grass fields.
The GDS (Goal Decisive System) is a special soccer ball that has been created to assist referees in making the decision on whether the ball has crossed the goal line or not. The soccer ball is named Teamgeist and has an implanted chip inside the ball which was proposed by the Cairos-Adidas resolution for fixing the miscalls of a goal. The chip inside the ball sends out a little beep into the referee's headset so that the referee can make a decision.
Critical and Creative Thinking is the understanding of the game by judging and decision making, this is used in determining what the player will do if he will cut left or right, pass back, side or forward or try to run pass. (reading the game) Decision making is a big part whether you are defending or attacking, to have a quicker reaction time or better judgement and decision making will give you a advantage over other players.
The ability to be personal and social is required to be a successful captain or coach but also to be a respectful towards other players. Players will develop their confidence, team work, resilience and to be overall positive. Being positive and confident is a vital role in playing the best you can. Socialising will make you more confident and comfortable. Captains wear armbands having "c" or "captain" printed on them to signify that you are a captain. After game social bonding is important to debrief.
Ethical Understanding is the behaviour towards others and the feedback and respect given to other players, referees, etc. Sportsmanship is an accurate example of ethical understanding, it is to behave fair and generously for others a sport. Sportsmanship should be used whether you are osing or winning, the game should be filled with it. Giving feedback to players is an essential for a coach, to help improve and increase the level of skill. Having a positive mentality and character is important to successfully be a professional footballer.
Like many other sports Football is an international sport with players coming from all around the world. Different cultures will play and socialise together from all around the world. Many professional teams sign players from anywhere, they will all have to speak one language. The official languages for FIFA referees is English and French but some may speak Portugese or Spanish. Mainly the referees use non-verbal by pointing and pulling out cards.
