My Life Journey Map

Presented to Mme. McDermott HRE 1O

by Emma Grieve

This is me before my christening.

In the beginning...

Then There was Light

March 8th, 2005 I was born. I was born in Oshawa Ontario at the hospital of Lakerigde health. This day not only was a big day for me but it was a life altering day for my sister, Amy, who was officially a big sister and no longer an only child.

Baby Emma!

The Meeting of Loue

Then There was an Orange Vest

When I was 1 year old my family moved away from Whitby to Bowmanville. I have always been an adventurous person and when I was little I took every oppurtunity to run, not necessarily to be bad but because I wanted to explore. My new neighbourhood was still under construction and we were one of the three families which lived there. One day my sister hit her face and got a bloody nose which resulted in me being unsupervised in the living room for a little while. I took my chance and learned how to open the door. I walked down the street and introduced myself to every construction worker I saw. I introduced myself by saying, "Hi I Emma!" (Grieve 2007). Eventually I met Loue and he brought me back to the only house who had children in the neighbourhood, my home. I had only been gone for a couple of minutes and I have been adventurous ever since.

*Disclaimer* This is not the real Loue, my family does not have a picture of him.

Along Came Joy... a.k.a The First Pony Ride

Then There was Joy

I have been around horses since I was 2 years old because my sister would not participate in any sports or activities other than riding which my parents put her in. I immediately fell in love with the sport but I didn't ride until I was five because I was too young at the time. Joy was the first horse I ever rode and she set me on the path I am today. She was a great horse and taught me many things about the sport. Most people thought my sister and I were just in the pony phase however, I have been in this so called "pony phase" for about 13 years now and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

The School Experience

Then There was School

On September 7, 2010 I had my first day of junior kindergarden. I went to St. Elizabeth elementary school in Bowmanville for about nine years and moved away at the end of grade seven. I will admit St. Elizabeth had its fair share of problems however, while at St. Elizabeth I made many friends, had great experiences, made amazing memories, and played many different sports.

St. Elizabeth Jersey's for all sports.

Tiger King? Tiger Queen

A lazy day

Then There was Trouble

When I was about five years old my sister got her first horse who was a five year old morgan named Tiger. He had a very good personality however he was very naughty. I ended up taking him over when I was eight. I had Tiger for a very long time, together we won and we lost and mainly placed 5th but we had a great time and made many wonderful memories doing crazy things.

His favourite trick was to give lots of kisses.

The Farm

We Bought a Zoo... Technically

When I was six years old my family moved to a farm where we lived for about six years. On our farm we had many horses, the first of which included Tiger and our bad pony, Lady. While at the farm we made lots of great memories and my sister and I did some crazy things. On our farm we had acres of trails through the forest for hours of fun riding, we had a great pool, a tennis court for when we were feeling competitive which also served as the area for the skating rink in the winters, and much more. The farm was an overall great experience which taught my family a lot. Although the farm was great the farm house was not the best, it was very old which resulted with some minor problems such as unexpected leaks, a very scary basement and some very cold winters. The house was built in 1861 and the farm was the first plantation which was used to help re-grow all the endangered plant life in the area and is now a protected land mass.

2020 Vermont Ski Trip

Learning to Snowboard

A Learning Curve

Trip to Revelstoke

Up until I was nine years old I was a skier however I decided to change things up and my dad started to teach me how to snowboard. I have snowboarded ever since and I absolutely love it. Snowboarding has provided me with amazing memories and experiences with my friends and family. I have been able to go on several snowboarding trips and I have even recently taught one of my friends to snowboard. I have also learned how to do many tricks on my board and I can see myself snowboarding for many years.

A fun day at the beach!

Hurricane Wilma

A quick lesson with Ben.

Along Came Wilma

Unfortunately Tiger was a very small horse and I eventually was too tall to ride him properly and was ready to move on to higher levels. I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect horse and when I was around 12 years old I found Wilma. She was perfect from the second I saw her and we have done many great things together. Wilma earned the name Hurricane Wilma because she has a tendancy to be fast like a Hurricane in the jump ring. Together we have had a lot of experiences which range from beach days to camping to showing. We are still working hard to develop more skills for the harder competition levels to come. She has one of the best personalities I have ever seen in a horse and a very odd appetite, she likes to give everything a try including sour patch kids, poptarts and timbits.

Our first show together!

First day of construction on our new house!

Baltimore, Ontario

Paige and I had a long day. We were up at 6am to go to a science competition, we didn't win but we got Harvey's!

Hectic Times

At the end of 2017 my parents bought a house in the small town of Baltimore because it has always been a dream of my dad's to renovate his own house and live there. At the end of grade seven we were finally ready to move in. Since we moved from Bowmanville to Baltimore I changed schools to St. Joseph's for grade 8. My year at St. Joseph's was one of the best school years I've had.During my time there I made great friends, went on many school trips, played every sport, and graduated. The St. Joseph's girls teams won every sport we played, from soccer to baseball. All our hard work payed off and we made great memories. We went on a variety of trips including three days in Mansfield for cross country skiing, a trip to Cedar Park, EastSide Marios, and a Blue Jays game. Graduation was also a really fun experience. I graduated from St. Joseph's on the honour roll and won the science, math, and the highest academic average award. I had a fairly busy and hectic time moving from Bowmanville to Baltimore but it was a great experience.

Our Mansfield ski trip.

This is one of our many sports tournament victories.

St. Mary's Secondary School

The Vermont trip. This was the best weather the entire trip, one day was really hot, one was raining and one was perfect.

High School

Unfortunately my grade nine year has been cut short due to a global pandemic however, it was full of great memories and friends. During grade nine I made the volleyball team, joined ski club, went on the Vermont ski trip, made new friends, and much more. Volleyball was a great way for me to get involved with the school and meet new people, our team worked very well together and we advanced to the Kawartha's. Ski club and the Vermont trip were great experiences which made great memories including taking the wrong bus and getting lost in downtown Stowe. Academic wise I had a very successful year, I did well in all classes and on all my exams.

The Vermont trip was very fun however, our room was very questionable but we did not let that get in the way of having fun.
