Conspiracy Theories

What is a conspiracy theory?

A conspiracy theory is a story that says a group of people ("conspirators") have agreed ("conspired") to do illegal or evil things and hide them from the public.

Conspiracy Theories

Conspiracy theories usually have little or no evidence.

The Marilyn Monroe Conspiracies

Marilyn Monroe was a famous American actress in the 1950s and 1960s. There were rumors that she had a romantic relationship with President John F. Kennedy.

Marilyn Monroe

Some conspiracy theorists believe that the CIA killed Marilyn Monroe because she knew too much secret information. In reality, doctors proclaimed her death a drug overdose.

Present Your Conspiracy Theory

Your Project

You and your partner may choose a conspiracy theory that already exists, or invent a new one.

1. You must give the important details of the conspiracy theory. What is it about?

2. Explain the conspiracy. Give two or three points that support the theory.

3. Give two or three points that support the opposite view-- the theory that most people accept.

4. Tell us what you think. Is it a true conspiracy, or is it invented?

The earth is flat

The moon landing in 1969 was faked.
