Early Jazz Rap:

A Tribe Called Quest

An early hip-hop collective, A Tribe Called Quest was formed in 1985, and consisted of MC and main producer Q-Tip, MC Phife Dawg, DJ and co-producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad and MC Jarobi White, who left the group in 1991 after the release of their debut album.

Kero One

Kero One, also known as Kero Uno, is a Korean-American hip hop MC, producer, and DJ from San Francisco, California. Kero One has been recognized for re-introducing the jazz rap sound in the early to mid 2000's with his groundbreaking jazz-hop album "Windmills of the Soul".

Nujabes

Seba Jun, under the record-name of Nujabes, (an anagram of his name) was best known for his approach to hip hop beats, often blending jazz influences into his songs creating a mellow, nostalgic and atmospheric sound. On February 26, 2010, Nujabes was involved in a traffic accident upon exiting the Shuto Expressway at 10:14 PM. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Shibuya Ward after efforts to revive him failed.
