Kenning 1

Sword-singer. Sword-singer is an example of a kenning that could mean a swordsman or warrior with great skill, to the point where their sword "sings" as they swing it. A simple combination of sword and singer. Common English word - swordsman/warrior.

Kenning 2

2

Resting-sun. Resting-sun would mean the moon, quite simply. Many ancient myths believed the sun and moon were one in the same, or the moon rose when the sun was sleeping, so it only makes sense. A combination of resting and sun. Common English word: moon.

Kenning 3

3

Tome-gatherer. Tome-gatherer, being a simple combination of tome and gatherer, would be someone who gathers books and literature, such as a scribe or librarian. As you can see, kennings are extremely simple to create and to understand, being extremely literal in most cases. Common english word: Librarian.

Alliteration

4

Beowulf is loaded with alliteration, for example, line 475. he swung his sword. 506, The hammered links held. Line 521. struck with all the strength he had left. 574-575. The battle's only survivor swam up and away from those silent corpses.

Another very simple concept, but it creates great emphasis on important things.
