City vs. Cell

Claudia Desch

Nucleus : Mayor

Nucleas

Mayor

The nucleus is the control center of the cell, it directs cell activity and stores important information. The mayor of a city controls the city they pass and approve laws, assigns tasks to help keep the city running smoothly. The nucleus can be compared with the mayor because they are both in charge of managing their community.

Ribosome - mayor’s employee

Ribosome

mayor's employee

The ribosome creates protein under order of the nucleus. A employee does many jobs under instructions of the mayor. These are similar because they both do vital job under instructions of a “leader”.

Golgi Apparatus: Mail man

golgi apparatus

mail man

The Golgi apparatus is in charge of sorting and packing protein to deliver throughout the cell. A mailman is in charge of delivering and sorting mail to bring to other people throughout their city. These are similar because they both deliver and sort vital things.

Mitochondria- restaurant

mitochondria

resturant

The mitochondria creates ATP/energy for the cell out of cell molecules. Restaurants create food to give to the people energy. They are similar because they both fuel the area in which they live in.

Rough er - construction worker

Rough ER

contruction worker

Rough er assembles proteins and lipids along with parts of the cell. Construction workers assemble buildings and many other parts of the city. I compared these because they both build major parts of there community.

Nucleolus - Library

nucleolus

library

The nucleolus stores ribosomes and the nucleus. Libraries store very important information. This analogy makes sense because the nucleolus also stores important information.

Smooth ER - manufacturer

Smooth ER

manufacturer

The smooth ER is in charge of making protiens and lipids to ship to the rest of the cell. A manufacturer does the same but with items a human might use.

Vacuole - storage building

Vacuole

storage building

The vacuole stores substances like water, salt and waste. A storage building holds a wide variety of items owned my humans. These are similar because they both store things that are not currently in use.

Lysosomes- trash man

lysosomes

trash man

Lysosomes break down molecules not needed by the cell. The trash-man collects trash from humans and takes it to a landfill were it get broken down. I compared these because they both assist in the process of cleaning waste.

Cytoplasm - streets and sidewalk

cytoplasm

streets and sidewalk

Cytoplasm is jelly like substance in between the other organelles. The streets and sidewalks in a city are the space in between other buildings are used during transportation. They both are there to fill space and help get you from one place to the other.
