The Influential Alexander the Great

Alexander The Great was the most influential person in history, from the earliest accounts to the fall of Rome because of his fair and unique leadership style, his courage to take down other empires and build the one of the largest empires of ancient times, and how he allowed Hellenistic culture to become widespread. His influence can still be seen today in how leadership is approached in modern society.

Biography:

Biography

Alexander the Great's Leadership Style

Leadership Style

Alexander the Great is known to be one of the best leaders of ancient history. He was a successful leader because of his clarity, organization, and encouragement of innovation and progress.

As a leader, Alexander’s clear visions and goals were a key factor in his success. It was his clarity that allowed Alexander to plan his actions carefully and meticulously. Alexander’s clear visions also aided him in addressing his people as they trusted a clear and level-headed leader much more than one who was foggy brained and lacked any clear ideals. Alexander was able to expand the Macedonian empire and hold on to such a large holding of land because he always knew his values and he possessed a profound clarity about them.

Alexander’s organizational means of governance is another reason why he was a successful leader. He implemented well organized systems to ensure that his government was fair and representative of his people. Alexander was known largely as a visionary leader, and this is true, he was known for his grandiose ideas. However, it is because of a more practical organizational prowise of his that he was able to execute upon his large scale desires.

Finally, Alexander was successful as a leader because of his encouragement of innovation and progress. Alexander and many of his people were military innovators. They built upon some monumental strategies and made them their own. Not only did Alexander’s army become large in size under his innovative leadership, but it became smart and progressive in its strategies. Alexander was also very progressive politically. His acceptance of cultures and belief systems other than his own was relatively unheard amongst the leaders of the time. Because of this, Alexander’s empire became very diverse, filled with all sorts of smart and creative people, each unique and different from the next, all united under Alexander’s leadership.

Alexander the Great was a truly monumental and progressive leader. He was accepting and showed how acceptance and innovation can work together to create excellence. He also possessed a unique clarity and had extremely well-developed organizational skills, both of which fueled him as a leader.

How Alexander The Great established the largest empire the ancient world had ever seen

Empire building

After 13 short years as a great conqueror he amassed the largest empire in the entire ancient world. This empire covered a total of 3,000 miles. He was able to complete it without the benefit of modern technology and weaponry. A lot of Alexander The Great's accomplishments were made possible by his father, Phillip II of Macedon. Phillip II conquered the Greek-city states, took advantage of the fact that the Greek-city states were divided, and united Greece.

How the Hellenistic Culture became widespread with the help of Alexander The Great

The Spread of Hellenic Culture

Alexander The Great inherited the Greece, conquered parts of Asia and North Africa, and founded many cities in which Greeks settled. He encouraged assimilation and in time, the cultures blended, creating a new Hellenistic Culture. The Hellenistic kingdoms spread trade and culture eastward to India, north into Central Asia, and south into Africa. They established a firm connection of trade and exchange with India and central Asia that was never broken. As the Hellenistic culture kept trying to spread their culture to others, other cultures started to use their ways as their own.

The Impact of Alexander on Modern Leadership.

Influence on leadership today

The impact of Alexander the Great can be seen in how leadership is approached in today's society. Although there is still much progress to be made, modern leaders are relatively fair and genuine, two qualities which Alexander pioneered in his leadership. Today, society is encouraging of creativity, innovation and progress. All of these values were, once again, spearheaded and distributed to masses by Alexander at a time when such liberties were seemingly unattainable. The truth is, the legacy of Alexander the Great is all around us. From routine socialization, to complex government organization, Alexander the Great was not only impactful during his own time, but is still very impactful in modern society.
