The UN negotiates a cease- fire in the Arab-Israeli conflict. It was an effort to secure a just and lesting peace in the wake of the six day war.

President Nasser seizes control of the Suez Canal. This was the nationalization of the Suez Canal Company, the joint Birtish and the French.
