What is Shirley Chisholm’s overall purpose in her speech? Is her overall delivery successful in making her point?
Shirley Chisholm ran for the Democratic nomination for the presidency of the United States because she saw a problem in government and she felt she was the best person to fix it. How does this act itself help to create change? How can you create change in your school or community?
To tell truths and facts about why people should vote for her. Shes trying to be real and vulnerable. I think it was sucsessful becasue she was being honest and not out of pity.
For America to succeed, there must be unity throughout the country. "We Americans are all fellow countrymen," states Shirley Chisholm in her speech on page 2. We are all God's children, and when we stand before the judgment of history in our nation one day, our individual wills are just as valuable as those of the most powerful general or corporate rich." This demonstrates our equality and the need for justice. People will get along and live in harmony if they are fair. Our country will grow if we are united.
Since Shirley was the first African American woman elected to the US Congress, this act helped with the start of change. Women are motivated by this. By speaking out and encouraging other people to do the same, I can bring change too just like Shirley.
