Theory Of Knowledge

By: Lavya Rahar Gupta 11G

Introduction

Robert A. Heinlein once said, "Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then do it.” But then arises the question, “who are these experts and why do we listen to them instead of the crowd of knowers?” We tend to see experts as people that base their knowledge on facts and have evidence and research to back up their statements. Experts are also symbols of credibility and credence in our society. While the crowd may have moulded or biassed opinions based on experiences, background or they might even have it shaped by social media. There is no doubt that crowds can lead to faster actions but fast actions aren’t always the answer they can lead to unintended consequences and knee jerk reactions from businesses and regulators. That’s where our experts come in.

Prompt : What roles do experts play in influencing our consumption or acquisition of knowledge?
