A man that many consider to be the founding father of toxicology is Phillippus von Hohenheim, who had a famous quote stating that "All things are poison, and nothing is without poison; only the dose permits something not to be poisonous". Another man considered to be a founder is Mathieu Orfila, who was able to give the first toxicology treatment in 1813.
"Toxicology" is actually a word originating from the Greek word "toxicon". Due to the limited knowledge about poisons, it was not considered a volumetric science until the 17th century during the emergence of chemistry.
Georgi Malkov was a screenwriter and playwrite from Bulgaria who advocated and wrote about anti-communism. His risky speech and journalism led to his assasination by someone from the KGB. The unkown assasin stabbed him in the leg in London with an umbrella, which was laced with the deadly poison called ricin. The poison slowly and painfully infiltrated his bloodstream, killing him at age 49, on 1978.
