Bipolar and Related Disorders - A disorder associated with episodes of mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs.

Bipolar I Disorder

Name: Bipolar I Disorder

Signs and Symptoms: Manic episode that may be preceded or followed by hypomanic or major depressive episodes. Mania (increased energy, very talkative etc..) Depressive (significant weight change, insomnia, etc..)

Treatment Options: Medications and day treatment programs are best options. Medication given are typically mood stabilizers (ex: lithium (Lithobid). In addition anti-depressant/anxiety medication.

Dissociative Disorders - Are conditions that involve disruptions or breakdowns of memory, awareness, identity, or perception.

Signs and Symptoms: Switching of alternate identities, each identity may have a unique name, characteristics, voice etc.. memory loss and feeling detached from yourself are commonly seen as well.

Treatment Options: Psychotherapy is best recommended option, as well as medications such as anti-depressants.

Feeding and Eating Disorders - Serious conditions related to persistent eating behaviors that negatively impact your health, involve focusing too much on your weight, body shape, and food leading to life threatening behaviors.

Bulimia Nervosa

Signs and Symptoms: Repeated episodes of eating abnormally large amounts of food in one sitting,

feeling a loss of control during bingeing — like you can't stop eating or can't control what you eat, forcing yourself to vomit or exercising too much to keep from gaining weight after bingeing etc.. results from negative body image, depression and anxiety.

Treatment Options: Includes cognitive behavioral therapy, and family-based treatment. Additionally medication such as anti-depressants and nutrition education. Seeing a dietitian.
