The Dutch colonized Taiwan in 1624, because they wanted to create a base of trading with China and Japan.
The Dutch wanted to build a trading base in Taiwan to trade with Japan and China. The first fort built in Taiwan by the Dutch was called An-ping Old Fort.
They Colonized Taiwan for about 40 years. During that time the Dutch introduced the natives to Oxen being used in farming, also cultivating rice, sugar, and other needed crops.
The Dutch easily converted many natives to Christianity during the time they ruled over Taiwan.
The Spanish also tried to convert many natives to Catholicism in the northern parts of Taiwan.
Economic:The way The Dutch traded back then is a basis of how the Taiwanese Trade today. They also helped the Natives find ways to cultivate their crops faster.
Political: The Dutch used Taiwan as a trading base not as a colony so they didn't really "Rule" over Taiwan but they did take over the towns and put in a unpaid governing system.
The Dutch made many of the Jobs in Taiwan Equally paying. But the Taiwanese already lived like that, The Dutch just gave them more jobs.
This type of pay also meant there wasn't much of a wage gap so there weren't "rich" people and "poor" people.
After many wars and battles between China and Japan and after them both having the Island as their colony for a bit. Taiwan broke free from China finally in the 1990s.
The Taiwan stock just recently crashed. This event is probably not linked, just a current event. The stock most likely crashed because of Covid-19.
Taiwan recently restricted hunting. In the 1600’s the dutch made sure that you could only go hunting unless you had a license and now Taiwan is restricting hunting more than just that, the
Dutch first started the whole restricting thing and when they got there and now the Taiwan are continuing that legacy.
