Introduction

Humans are extraordinarily complex and intricate beings. There are many areas of life that affect wellness. Understanding all the areas of wellness gives us a deeper understanding of ourselves, and helps us understand how to live a satisfying life.

Physical Wellness

Physical wellness is all about taking care of your body. This includes making sure everything works properly to help us interact with the world in our immediate future, but also includes the practices that make our lives and habits the most sustainable.

Interpersonal Wellness

Interpersonal wellness is all about relationships: friendships, professional relationships, and family relationships. It involves communicating in a variety of contexts. Cultural Wellness

An important part of identity is culture. Culture can help determine our values, give us roles in society, and understand appropriate or inappropriate behavior. Feeling at home in our own cultures allows us to be comfortable with ourselves; but at the same time, an important part of cultural wellness is being able to understand and value cultures different from our own.

Cultural wellness involves things like:

  • Creating relationships with those who are different from you
  • Maintaining and valuing your own cultural identity
  • Avoiding stereotyping based on ethnicity, race, gender, sex, religion, or sexual orientation.

Cultural Wellness

Cultural wellness involves embracing your own culture, and valuing others.

Culture includes art, literary style, food, music, and religion.

Snoop Dogg's cookbook, From Crook to Cook, represents almost all these aspects of culture.

Spiritual Wellness

Spiritual wellness is about taking care of the part of you that isn't physical. For many, this involves religion and spirituality. Spiritual wellness can be an important part of feeling fulfilled, and can affect our values to teach us empathy and kindness.

Spiritual Wellness

Spiritual wellness involves things like:

  • Capacity for love
  • Compassion
  • Forgiveness
  • Altruism
  • Joy and fulfillment
  • Caring for others
  • Sense of meaning and purpose
  • Sense of belonging to something greater than oneself

Spiritual Wellness

Achieving spiritual wellness involves religion for many people. As a biased author, the Bible is my source of spiritual wellness.

Environmental Wellness

Environmental wellness is about taking care of our natural resources. This allows us to experience natural beauty, and to protect natural resources to keep our lifestyle sustainable for future generations.

Environmental Wellness

Environmental wellness can include things like:

  • Having abundant, clean, natural resources
  • Maintaining sustainable development
  • Recycling whenever possible
  • Reducing pollution and waste

Environmental Wellness

Environmental wellness involves ensuring the sustainability of energy sources, and caring for the world we live in.

Financial Wellness

  • Having a basic understanding of how money works
  • Living within one's means
  • Avoiding debt, especially for unnecessary items

Occupational Wellness

Occupational wellness is about finding joy in our vocations. This can greatly contribute to our general satisfaction with life, and affect the other stages of wellness. What you spend time doing is a big part of who you are, and it's important to be able to see the good things about it.

Occupational Wellness

Occupational wellness involves things like:

  • Enjoying what you do
  • Feeling valued by your manager
  • Building satisfying relationships with co-workers
  • Taking advantage of opportunities to learn and be challenged
