The thirteen colonies were the first original settlements in what is now the US.

Connecticut

Facts:

  • The colony was known as a river colony.
  • The word Connecticut means "land on the long tidal river."
  • The Connecticut climate was humid.
  • The colonists made money off of cash crops.

  • Organized on March 3, 1636
  • The English struggled with the Dutch to gain control of the colony.
  • The Pequot war was fought between the Pequot indians and the colonists
