Don't Cook Your Dog

Alecka Madden

ED 380

The Issue

  • A hot car is no place for your dog! Many pets die each summer as a result of being left in parked cars during warm weather.
  • Temperatures inside a parked car, even with the windows open and in the shade, can rapidly reach very dangerous levels, even on a relatively mild summer day.

WHAT HAPPENS?

What Happens?

  • Dogs have a harder time adjusting to heat than most humans, so being stuck in a hot car can quickly become life threatening.
  • When the temperature rises, dogs will try to cool off by panting, and their anxiety level will likely rise in relation to their discomfort.
  • When the ambient humidity is also increased, panting becomes much less efficient, making it more difficult for dogs to regulate their body temperature.

Why is this happening?

Many pet owners believe their best friend will be okay in the car, even if it is just for a few minutes.

They do not realize how hot the inside of a car can get, even with the windows rolled down.
