Historic sites are sacred and important places in the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Explore the Church website to find out more about each individual site.
Historic sites sisters are called to one of the many historic sites from Vermont to California. They serve there exclusively for four months, under the direction of the historic site president. After those four months, they are transferred to the proselyting mission mentioned in their call.
What the tours will look like
These historic site tours will be similar to the visitor center tours. The only difference is that these will be focused more on the history of the Church. Pictures might be more scarce in the zoom call, but there will still be an emphasis on the history of the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Thursday at 6:30 pm MST: Member Tour
Friday at 2:30 pm MST: Non-member Tour
These tours will still be over zoom
The Historic Sites area offers TRC opportunities to take a tour both as a non-member and as a member. The Friday afternoon tour will be in your role, as normal. However, on Thursday evenings, TRC Actors will take the tour as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (this means that, if you are a member, you will just be yourself! If you are a non-member, this means that you will actually have the chance to act!)
For many of you, this means that you can just be yourself in the historic site member tour. You don’t have to use your TRC role, and you can talk about your knowledge about the Church as much as you want. On the other hand, there are some of you who aren’t currently members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you are not currently a member of the church, you can still do the member tour! You will simply act as if you are a member and be aware that the sisters will treat you as a member. This means that you will be expected by the missionaries to know the lingo of the Church. If you feel like this is something you would like to try, go for it! If you are nervous about acting like a member, you can just tell the sisters you are a recent convert or a less-active, and that you don’t know much about the church yet, so they might have to explain certain things to you. And if you want to do it but feel like you aren’t quite confident in some areas, talk to your supervisor or one of us, and we will gladly help you!
Whether you are doing the non-member or member tour, you will be specifically interested in learning more about the history of the Church in a specific city or site. You will be role playing as if you were in the city that the sisters will be serving. (This means we will tell you where the sisters will be serving before the tour. This will allow you time to prepare any questions or interests). Maybe you have heard a lot about Joseph Smith and want to know more. Or maybe you simply like to learn how different religions began. Either way, be creative, make it specific to where the sisters will be serving, and align it with your role if you are doing the non-member tour.
If you need ideas on how to fit Church history into your role, or just what specifically to be interested in, look at the Church website to learn more about the historic sites and why they are important.
