PLOT

WRITTEN BY : KATHLEEN GLASGOW
Charlotte Davis is a 17 year old girl who has been through a lot. She is broken into so many pieces. She was abused by her mother, bullied, has lost so many people including her father and her two closest friends, and has gone through so many other things a seventeen year old should not have to go through. Her nickname is Charlie.
The protagonist of this story is Charlotte Davis and the antagonist of this story is her self harming.
There were two main themes in this novel. The first theme is no matter how hard something gets, it will get better. Whether it takes a week or a year, things will get better. This is shown by all of the struggles Charlie goes through and then finally gets better. The second theme is your happiness should not depend on other people. This is clear throughout the whole book because the reasons why Charlie is so depressed is caused by others surrounding her. Eventually, she learns to not let her surroundings effect her.
The setting of this novel starts in Creepy Psychiatric Facility in Minneapolis, Minnesota and eventually the setting changes to Tuscon, Arizona in the present. The mood of the novel is very sad and depressing.
As this novel continues, more characters start to get introduced and a conflict begins to occur. Other characters in the novel are Misty Davis, which is Charlie's mother, DannyBoy, Dump, Evan, and Elanor who are Charlie's closest friends, Micheal, an old friend who offers Charlie a place to stay after she runs away, and Riley, a sweet musician that surrounds Charlie with kindness and positivity. Charlie also meets a couple other people who are staying at the facility. Blue is one who calls Charlie "silent Sue". Casper leads and gathers all the patients to talk to one another about their feelings. Louisa is Charlie's roommate who has long red hair. One conflict that occurs is the fact that Elanor is nearly brain dead which upsets Charlie so much.
CLIMAX
In this novel, there is no specific highest point because throughout the whole story, it shows all of Charlie's ups and downs. One of the high points is when Charlie gets to leave the facility and moves to Tuscon, Arizona. In Tuscon, she gets a job and moves into an apartment. When she moves there, many good changes occurred. After a while of being in Tuscon, Blue comes to visit Charlie.
The conflict in this novel is person vs. self because Charlotte struggled a lot and started to self harm by cutting. She nearly killed herself.
