Food Web: Tropical/Savanna Grasslands

Start

Grass

Grass turns solar energy into chemical energy, it is a producer.

Antelope

Energy from the grass is tranferred to the antelope after the antelope eats the grass. Antelopes are primary consumers.

Caracals

Energy from the antelope is transferred to the caracal once the caracal eats the antelope. Carcals are secondary consumers.

Cheetah

Energy from the caracal is transferred to the cheetah once the cheetah eats the carcal. Cheetahs are tertiary consumers.

Hyena

Vulture

Hyenas and vultures get

their energy by eating the bodies of dead animals. Hyenas and vultures are scavengers.

Flies

Fungi

Both fungi and flies break down organic material, such as dead organisms. By doing so, they release nutrients into the soil that help the producers grow. Fungi and flies are decomposers.

The Law of Conservation states that energy can not be created nor destroyed. This means that energy changes form as it cycles through the ecosystem, but the energy in the ecosystem remains constant.
