Taniguchi Buson, better known as Yosa Buson, was born in 1716 and died 1784. He was a Japanese painter, but was mostly know for his haiku's. He traveled quite a lot in northeastern Japan and studied haiku's under several masters.
Time heals all wounds, no matter how dark of a state you may be in. (Time heals everything)
Symbolism was used to symbolize the deeper meanings throughout the poem (will be shown later on)
Imagery was used to express words for the reader to get a better understanding about certain words and the point Buson was attempting to get across. (This will also be shown and explained more further on)
The mood of the poem had came off content/ calm at first, but when looking closer into and looking for the deeper meanings, the poem had gone from being quite unpleasant to calm.
A red moon symbolizes a new beginning or the start of something new. It also symbolizes that something is being fixed or healed.
Line 2
In this line of the poem, the author had used the word "west". The meaning behind the word "west" means darkness and evil. The word "late" is giving the idea to the reader that the negativity hadn't faded till the end of the day/ later in life.
The word "shadows", as used in the poem, also means darkness or negativity as well as "west". The word "eastward" deeper meaning means positivity and healing. Figuring out the deeper meaning behind these words helps show the readers darkness/ hard times/ negativity "flowing" into healing/ more positive.
The word "vanish" in this line symbolizes that the healing has completed and that all the pain has gone away.
To sum it up, in the haiku, A Red Moon Goes Down written by Taniguchi Buson, the theme found was "Time heals all wounds, no matter how dark of a state you may be in(time heals everything)". The author used imagery and symbolism to help the readers find the deeper meaning of the poem. The mood throughout the poem had gone from being unpleasant to being quite calm.
