We will finally be talking about defineing X. Let's start with our first equation, x+5=5x+1. First, we will change the order in the first part of the equation, and it will become 5+x., according to the Communative Property . Now, subtract x from both sides. You get 5=4x+1 Now, you subtract 1 from both sides to get 4=4x. You divide 4 from both sides (you can only use division for places where multiplucation is involved, multiplucation where division is involved, addition when subtraction is involved, and addition when subtraction is involved, untill you get to algebra). Multiple varibles can be used as an equation too. For example, x+v+5=2x-2v+5. Here, though, you see that 5=5 to both x and v need to be 0.

Coefficiants

Did I say beware the coefficients? I take that back. Coefficients are probably the most simple part of using varibles. They are also fun to use when you try to confuse someone while talking (which sounds more complex, 5x+45+2y+4g+2r+5t or 1+1). It is the anceint tradition of mathemeticians long ago to place the coefficiant before the varible. But, first, before we get into more of this, let's get to what a coefficiant is. A coefficiant (base defintion from dictionary.com) is a number placed before a varible and is multiplied by the varible. They are usefull because they are simple to make. For example, Instead of saying x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x, you can say 11x, or instead of saying f+f+f+f+f, you can say 5f.

First, we will be talking about what varibles are. You have been using variables since you where little, believe it or not. You said, 2+2= something, for example. When you said something, you used a variable. That unknown value is a variable. I could just end with that note. But that's not it. If you though that was it, why did you think that I made this website? There can be more than one varible in an equation, which we will touch on later. By the way, you can use any type of letter or letter combo to represent as a varible. The true definition of a varible, as shown above, is a letter used to represent a unknown number. Congrats, you have completed your first leap towards your goal, to learn about varibles, but a warning to you, beware the coefficients.

Variables are one of the joys of algebra, each letter with a mystery behind it. They add up to each other, to make larger variable like 2x, 192xy, and infinite more. This website will be teaching you about these cool little things and their use in math. I, personally think that the use of variables are the most important tool in math. Instead of reading the whole EX: 1+4+5+22+458+375, you can write x, or a, or others. Impressed?
