Common Usage - Love is usually used to express our feelings about someone. This can often be referred to as your partner's girlfriend or boyfriend. In my opinion, when you say you are in love with someone you usually want to spend your time and life with them.

Kenny is expressing his feelings about Lucy and how he loves hers. Lucy knows that but dues for a couple of reasons she can’t accept his feelings because she needs him to be there for her and her daughter and doesn’t want him to be on leave. Kenny understands Lucy's opinion and he is willing to change for her. Therefore we can tell Kenny is in love since there an affection and attachment. Also, studies have proven when a person is in love they are willing to change for the other person.

After reading the letter he rushed to his boss and asked if he be paid and needed to go back due to family issues. Overall we can tell that Kenny is in love with Lucy since he has run to his boss and wants to be paid out right now and needs to get back to the Mainland. This expressed the caring part of the love since he left the workplace really fast, if he hadn’t loved or cared about things he could have walked to his boss or gone different day or just ignored and sent back a letter saying couldn’t work.

The quote expresses that Kenny and Lucy have both officially accepted each other feelings and are ready for commitment which is extremely important in love in my opinion. The term paperwork is referring to marriage papers.
