The Grizzlies joined the NBA in 1995 as the Vancouver Grizzlies. In the expansion draft they got to select 14 players well the Raptors were selecting 14 players too. In the 1995 draft they had the 2nd pick and selected Greg Anthony.

In the 2001 NBA draft the Atlanta Hawks drafted Pau Gasol as the 3rd overall pick and the Grizzlies drafted Shane Battier with the 7th pick. The Grizzlies traded Battier to the Hawks for Gasol.
