Ernest Burgess Model

Concentric Zone Model

-In the concentric zone model a city grows in rings surrounding the CBD

-The concentric zone model was modeled after Chicago, Illinois in 1925

-Pro: The poorer neighborhoods are closer to the CBD making it easier to commute to jobs

-Con: The Ernest Burgess Model does not take into account gentrification or barriers

Homer Hoyt Model

Sector Model

-The sector model is a model of urban land use, created in 1939 by Homer Hoyt

-Pro: Costs of housing are consistant from the center to the outer parts of the city

-Con: This model was based around central railroad trasnportation

Chauncy Harris and Edward Ullman Model

-The Multiple Nuclei Model was created by Chauncy Harris and Edward Ullman in 1945

-Pro:The low and middle class housing are the closest to the CBD which is closer to more jobs

-Con: There is no homogeneity between the multiple nuclei

Multiple Nuclei Model

Griffin-Ford Model

Latin American City Model

-The Latin American City model was created by Ernest Griffin and Larry Ford in 1980

-Pro:The economy is supported by the elite becuase they live closest to entertainment and work

-Con:The poorer live on the outskirts of the city making it harder to find a close job and making a long commute for a job in the CBD

De Blij Model

African City Model

-The African City Model was created by Harm De Blij

Pro:There are multiple CBDs in the De Blij Model

Con: The zones in the model are not very specific, and vague

McGee Model

-The Southeast Asian City Model was created by geographer, TG Mcgee, in 1967

-Pro:The Southeast Asian City Model can easily accomodate to rapid changes

-Con:There is no CBD in the model

Southeast Asian City Model

Urban Realm Model

-The Urban Realm Model was created by James E. Vance in the 1960s

-Pro: The city can take on a large growing population due to its dependence on automobile transportation

-Con: A city can experience and urban sprawl, an expansio of urban areas
