Real-Life Applications of Rational Functions

Real life examples

why are they cool?

what is a rational function?

What are rational functions?

A rational function is a function that is the ratio of two polynomials. Any function of one variabl "x" is called a rational function if it can be represented as f(x) = p(x)/q(x)

R(x) = P(x)/Q(x)

why are they cool?

Rational funtions are the best, without them where would we be in in life today? Rational functions helps us with so many jobs and our day to day life problems. Without Rational functions we wouldnt have jobs such as Aerospace engineers

Chemical engineers, Civil engineers, Environmental engineers, Mechanical engineers, and many more.

When do we use them?

When do we use them?

Guest house article says "When we apply math in our daily life, then it becomes amazingly interesting for us to understand." This means we have many oppurtunities throught out day to make math-like decisions. For example, say we have to fit an object in a tight space what could we do jam it in or could we find the math behind it to figure out what angle and velocity to push the object into place?

Jobs that use rational functions

Jobs that use rational functions

If you dont like math and worry that you will get a job that includes high level math skills dont stress though there are very many jobs that require a top tier math education most of those jobs are uncommon and some may unintrest you. But here are some jobs that where rational funtions are common.

doctors

Not just any doctor could be include in this catagory but more specificly a pediatrician. A pediatricians job is to measure medicene to give to a patient. To much they die to little they wake up in the middle of the surgery.

engineers

Engineers

noun. a person trained and skilled in the design, construction, and use of engines or machines, or in any of various branches of engineering. Does this need more explination? I think not it is clear that using math is an everyday problem for engineers due to them working with construction, and engines.

Chemical Engineers

Chemical Engineers get busy when it comes to physics and math. Chemical engineers work hard to establish safety procedures for those working with dangerous chemicals. With doing this it requires a lot of knowledge in math and physics

Chemical Engineers

R(x) = P(x)/Q(x)

An example of what equations they work with; look familiar?

Real life examples

Life is full of math problems so no human can be a stanger to math. We use math even when we dont know we are using it. For example, Riding a bike down a hill includes so much math but we dont realize it. If you break down the math behind riding a bike down a hill a lot get exposed from it. You would learn that velocity and force has a lot on weather you can bring you bike to a stop of if you go crashing into a tree. So we are going to dive down into where we see rational functions in our life.

flying a plane

One thing that is cool about me is my friend Jacob can fly a plane. In fact he is closing into getting his flying licences but it made me think. WHat is the math behind a plane? Why can something so heavy glide through the air like a paper air plane? Well this works because the inventors of these used rational equations to find things such a weight, height, and distance.

Creating a boat

To narrow it tips and sinks to wide it slowly sinks or has a highier change or hitting an object in its way. Designing a boat is very difficult and the math behind isnt any easier. To design a boat you must figure out its weight, you must also figure out its shape in the proccess and doing this isnt easy because there is math constantly being used. One false step and the bot sinks and many lives are at risk. The designiers of a boat must use rational functions to find things such a shape of parts or weight of parts.

Equations

Equations

4/x + 5/2 = -11/x.

5x/(x - 2) = 7 + 10/(x - 2)

(3x - 2)/(x - 2) = 6/(x2 - 4) + 1.

2/(x2 - x) = 1/(x - 1)

3/(x + 2) = 6/(x - 1)

Life or Death

Life or death (real life examples pt.2)

When you think about math something such as life or death doesnt come to mind but hopefully i can put it into perspective that you will see where knowing math could in a way mean life or death. With my three examples being a Doctor, Car Engineer, and plane designer you can maybe start to get a clue that math may be more important and used in our everyday lives.

doctors

doctors

Being a doctor isnt easy. And it is proven when you read that going to college to be a doctor could be upwards of nine years of your life. I feel this goes to show that these schools are requiring so many years of schooling because they are handling with the lives of people like I said before math is a huge part of this and they use it all the time for example a pediatrician must learn things such a rational equation to determine an amount of doses to give a patient before surgery.

car engineers

Car engineers make big bucks for a reason. But its not just as easy as drawing a car up on a peice of paper. No, if it was that easy everyone would do it. But it is the little things such a the calculations of how much pressure should be applied to a veicles breaks and you have to include the weight to it and the velocity the car can reach and these car engineers need to account for so many things and their antidote to solving all of this is math. Math is the answer to everything from tire pressure, to brake pressure, to velocity of a car.

Plane Designers

Plane Designers

Just as the car designers, plane designers have so much they need to acount for as well. From what I beleive where rational funtions are being used in the creation of a plane is in the velocity and weight. For a plane to acheive so much velocity it must have and engine that can reach speeds fast enough for the light plane could slowly lift from the ground and take flight.
